With colder weather approaching (and in some places here already), a sleep sack is a must have for a little baby! We used them with our first when she was a baby and are using them with our second now. They are so cozy, safe, and warm and come in varying weights and sizes. It is really important to have a sleep sack made of natural materials, as it is right next to baby's body. We have various sleep sacks that we love, one of them is the Ergo Pouch.

sleep & beyond wool mattress cover and pillow

sleep & beyond wool mattress cover and pillow

With the arrival of our second daughter soon coming, I was looking for a mattress cover and protector for our new bed. We had recently updated to a king and we needed something to protect it from the various occurrences that happen with a baby! I also had found I was more comfortable on our guest bed that had a wool mattress pad on it (more obvious to me at 36 weeks pregnant). I looked to see what mattress pad we had on the guest bed and it was by Sleep & Beyond. I had done some research a few years ago when buying a pad for our old bed. It is really comfortable and made of wool and cotton (it is called the myPad). For our bed now (king) we got the myDual Pad and myWoolly Pillow from Sleep & Beyond. The myDual Pad consists of a cushy side that is 100% wool fleece with no other covering, and the soft side is 100% wool under 100% cotton.

affordable wooden toddler furniture

affordable wooden toddler furniture

In our world, having our daughter's furniture made out of wood is ideal. It is also true that many people, including us, have to also think about cost and weigh multiple things when making a decision on what to buy. There are three things we have bought in the past year that I am going to talk about here. I think they are reasonably priced and also solid and strong. There are many beautiful handmade and locally sourced, completely non toxic products out there, and at the end of this post I will list some of them. These three items have fit very well in our home.

patagonia's traceable down

patagonia's traceable down

We have had a very cold winter, and now that we are in the country the items we have from Patagonia have helped our little one stay very warm and cozy! I heard about Patagonia's Traceable Down from a friend and read about it online right away. I have to admit, this is not something I really knew about! I am glad that I am aware of it now because it is awful how much of the down is obtained in many companies. Patagonia is one of the few that ensures their down is plucked humanely.

acure - a natural and delightful skin care

I have been searching for a skin care line that is good for me, for the environment, that works, and that smells nice, without a high price tag. I came across Acure Organics on gimmethegoodstuff.org and have since tried out an entire skin care regimen of theirs. I am very pleased with their products and their company. Here are some of the reasons:

crane teardrop humidifier

crane teardrop humidifier

Winter is a time when things can get really dry inside. I have read that dryness can sometimes make it easier to get a cold, although I don't really know that to be true. Based on experience, it does lead to dryer skin, and can even lead to nose bleeds. I have mixed feelings about humidifiers, but looked around for the best humidifiers that were also affordable when our daughter was an infant...

alternative popsicle molds

alternative popsicle molds

With summer comes nice cool treats! Popsicles are an easy way to make something sweet, fun to eat, and with less sugar, if you prefer. When I was looking for popsicle molds, I knew I didn't want the mold to be made out of plastic, any kind of plastic. I found two that I tried and liked: Zoku silicone popsicle molds and Life Without Plastic stainless steel popsicle molds.

favorite cloth diaper - grovia

favorite cloth diaper - grovia

We have tried a few cloth diaper covers and the Grovia Hybrid Diaper Shell definitely gets the most use and is very versatile. These covers can be used with the Grovia snap-in soaker, any prefolds or flats, or disposable inserts. I like that where the cloth diaper doesn't cover, soft polyester mesh is what touches baby's skin and not a PLU waterproof coated fabric which I would personally find uncomfortable, especially in the warmer months.

organic baby clothes

organic baby clothes

There are numerous reasons to buy organic clothes, especially for babies! The cotton is not grown with the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, it is not produced with toxic flame retardants, they usually use low impact dyes. It's better for the baby, better for you, and better for the environment! The more organic clothes are purchased, the more companies that will make them and the more prices will go down (that's the idea right?).

woolino 4 season baby sleep bag

woolino 4 season baby sleep bag

After the swaddle stage we were looking for something cozy and safe to keep our baby in during sleep time. I looked at a lot of sleep sacks and decided it was important to get something that was made out of all natural materials, no polyester lining or fill. Made from 100% merino wool and 100% organic cotton, the Woolino 4 Season Baby Sleep Bag is an amazing sleep sack and I think an essential purchase for a new baby (or also of course if you already have a baby). This is a four season sleep sack that lasts from 2-24 months, so baby can wear it year round. Both of these factors make the higher cost (higher than a synthetic sleep sack) more economical in the long run.

naturepedic crib mattress - organic cotton ultra 252 seamless 2 stage

In my research for a healthy baby crib mattress, I came across Naturepedic. Their organic mattresses range in price and features. Here I am going to review the No Compromise Organic Cotton Ultra 252 Seamless, 2 Stage. It is on the higher end of their mattresses, but I think if you are going to get one of their mattresses, it is worth it to spend a little more if possible. They do offer some wonderful options on the lower end of the budget, so you can get a healthy mattress for your baby without breaking the bank.

Danish Woolen Delight was started by a nurse whose background was in textile design. I loved the ease of use of their website, and it seems like I would be happy with just about anything they offer.

snugbags winter sleepsack

snugbags winter sleepsack

When searching for a baby SleepSack (or wearable blanket) that would be very warm in the winter and was made of only natural materials, I came across Snugbags. The company is based in New Zealand, so shipping might take longer than what many people are used to if you are ordering from a well known online US based store, but I found the wait well worth it. We have been using this SleepSack for our baby most of the winter so far. It keeps her warm and is so cozy! I am hoping it will last next winter as well. Here's some info on the Sack:
